While Dr. Logan was practicing family dentistry he
had the opportunity to see young children come in
with low self-esteem due to crooked teeth, spaced
teeth and major overbites and underbites. It
reminded him that in his childhood, kids were
quick to pick on others with insulting remarks
about their teeth. “I began to see that
making a difference is what I wanted to do. To
make people feel good about themselves when they
flashed a beautiful smile.”
“It became clear to me that I wanted to
pursue becoming an orthodontist. It took many
years of schooling, self-sacrifice and dedication,
but in the end it has been well worth it.
“
Today Dr. Logan has the opportunity to change the
self-esteem of children and adults with all the
incredible technological advancements and
opportunities of treatment available. Dr. Logan
also wanted to work hand in hand with
maxillofacial surgeons on patients who had trauma
to their jaws and teeth. He needed to continue to
expand his knowledge in order to treat patients
that have been in accidents that caused the need
for jaw and tooth reconstruction. “ I have
seen accidents where the face was so distorted
that you hardly recognize the person due to
accidents caused by falls, bicycles, sports,
motorcycles, cars, and violent crimes.”
“Being able to assist in the reconstruction
of the face and bite because of these types of
accidents is one more assurance that I chose the
right profession and that I can and do make a
difference in peoples lives.”
WHILE A BEAUTIFUL SMILE FULL OF CONFIDENCE may be
the most obvious benefit of treatment for many
people, by correcting crooked, crowded teeth that
are hard to clean and maintain, we can help
prevent tooth decay, gum disease and eventual
tooth loss. Improper jaw alignment can contribute
to the wearing away of tooth surfaces (resulting
in expensive restorations, caps, bridges, crowns,
etc.), and inefficient chewing (function is
limited).
